Speech in typical adults

The purpose of this study is to investigate how the brain uses sound information to control speech production.

Who: Adults with no speech, language, or hearing problems
What: Completing simple speaking tasks on a computer while we record your voice
Where: Waisman Center, 1500 Highland Ave., Madison, WI 53705
Time commitment: One visit lasting 45 minutes
Payment: $10/hour

Speech in adults with aphasia

The purpose of this study is to investigate how the brain controls speech movements in individuals with aphasia, an acquired neurogenic language disorder.

Who: Adults with aphasia who have difficulty communicating
What: Completing simple speaking tasks on a computer while we record your voice
Where: Waisman Center, 1500 Highland Ave., Madison, WI 53705
Time commitment: One visit lasting 1-2 hours
Payment: $10/hour

Speech in French language-learners

The purpose of this study is to investigate how the brain learns to produce words in a foreign language.

Who: Native English-speaking adults who learned or are learning French as a second language
What: Completing simple speaking and listening tasks while we safely and non-invasively record your brain activity using MEG
Where: Froedtert Hospital, 9200 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53226
Time commitment: One visit lasting 3 hours
Payment: $30/hour
